anyone have experiences with this hardware (version 2.6)? trying to get it to STAY connected on a 2000 machine but constantly loses connection and then have to reboot.

via chipset mobo. upgraded to the latest 4 in 1's and even flashed the bios with the latest firmware but same results. latest drivers for the adapter are in use. only usb device on the controller.

the adapter is connecting to a linksys wap with ssid broadcast disabled and wep encryption at 128. mac address filtered, and the ap and adapter are in the same room. dont really want to adjust any router settings because of security reasons. i have an ipaq/orinoco combo that are working just fine.

or maybe someone can suggest a more reliable usb adapter. tia.

I had a similar problem with my Linksys WAP54G.
I went into the web based set up and tried different channels (instead of default 6). I finally got mine working reliably on channel 3.
When it does work, is your signal strength good?
Do you have any 2.4 GHz telephones near your access point?

I'm just trying to remember what the Linksys people told me when I was having a similar problem.

my signal is strength is 100%. ive tried all the channels and there is not any 2.4ghz cordless phone interference because my ipaq still functions. it appears that when a whole bunch of data goes thru the adapter, that is when the usb controller just hangs.

i had a usb optical mouse on the same controller and when the adapter froze so would my mouse (light would go out). i put the mouse on a seperate controller and the mouse was still alive even after i lost my internet connection. pretty much tried everything. i even set it up so the transfer rate was only at 1mB, that actually kept the connection alive for a longer duration but eventually froze up.

i got it to work on my main pc flawlessly, but i don't need an adapter on that. i pretty much tried everything for the pc that i wanted it to work on but to no avail. i even took out all the pc cards just in case it was an irq conflict, reserved an irq for the usb controller and disconnected all other usb devices, latest drivers, latest bios firmware, default bios settings (cuz i heard oc'ing has an effect). nada.

oh well, returning it to amazon in the morning. shame too because i got it for $27 shipped.

WOW, that was a good price! I bought one but had trouble getting W98 to recognize it. I was using a USB PCI card since my mobo had none. I had to keeping re-installing drivers every time I rebooted. FINALLY bought the PCI version and it works fine now.

You could get more for it on eBay! :)
