I have a Linksys WRT54GS router and a Linksys Wireless-G Notebook adapter card. I can get the notebook adapter to connect to the internet through my router only in the router's default mode with no security enabled, SSID being broadcast, in mixed wireless mode (won't connect in G only even though it is a G adapter card), and wireless MAC address filtering disabled. I typed the card's MAC address in to the address filter and told the router to allow it to access, but still no dice. I want my network to be secure, but also want to be able to connect with my laptop. I was going to upgrade firmware but wanted to get the basics working before getting into something more in depth. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried going step by step?

If it connects with no settigns and just defaults, then setup a profil on the client PC that includes a typed in SSID and make sure it still connects. Then add the MAc address to the router and see if it still connects. Then turn off SSID Broadcast and see if it still connects. Then turn on WEP and put a code in each system and see if it still connects....

Just go one by one until you figure out which art is causing the problems.
