Linksys WRT54G

Topic says it all. I see people in FS/FT asking for version 2, 3.1, 4. etc. What version are they on and can you not put Sveasoft on it?

I was shopping for a 2nd wireless Linksys router, their G only version and I did some research on it. It looks like they cut the memory by half on ver 5 and don't let you modify the firmware with 3rd party ones or maybe there hasn't any made for this ver yet. Ver 3 is impossible to find in retail store now. You may have some luck w/ ver 4 in Walmart or Circuit City. Ver 5 has serial # starts with CDFB I have ver 3.0 and its pretty much same as v2.2 Like you said the only reason people want older ver is to flash it with other firmware out there and to use WDS or with Linux Linksys has to cut costs to compete with other companies. I've seen they put theirs on sale more often at 39.99 AR. They used to be at least 49.99 AR

I just bought one over the holiday season from bestbuy and it was still version 3. You may want to check them out and see if they have anymore that are version 3

You don't want version 5 as that's not modable. Any of the older versions are.

Q:So How can I avoid/find one of these products?
As with all previous hardware revisions of the WRT54G and WRT54GS, version identification can be made by the Serial Number. Serial Numbers can be found on a small white sticker next to the UPC code on the product box. Our Autopsy Guide always contains the latest differentiating information, but here's the quick and dirty.

The first four digits of the serial number will indicate the packaged hardware version. If unit is outside of the box, the version is indicated on the silver stick on the bottom front of the router.
