Linksys WRT54G WiFi broadband router

Guys i am looking for a good wifi router through which i can get wireless broadband for my lappy & desktop. i have found that Linksys WRT54G is a very good router. So could you guys give your view on the Linksys WRT54G & you can also recommend any other router which you think is better than the linksys one.

How does more memory affect a computer? The more memory, the better. Better perfomance, router doesn't need to be rebooted normally, etc.

The WRT54G is not a very good router. The WRT54GL is a decent router. I'll take the Asus WL-500G Premium over the WRT54GL though.

It's okay. Better if you flash it with DD-WRT. It used to be a good router before v5 came out. The old WRT54G with a large amount of memory is now the WRT54GL.

I'm personally using a WRT54G v8.2 in my apartment with DD-WRT v24 flashed to it and it works fine. The only time it has ever crashed was when I was running a torrent over wireless (and I've since stopped using them as I really have no need for them).

The Linksys WRT-54G up to version 4, and the GL version are good Routers with Mediocre Wireless.

The Asus is a good Router with better Wireless.

Is see that the Asus has a USB port. Would it be possible to hook a USB printer to that router, and share it with the rest of the network (print server)? Also how is the default firmware? Is DD-WRT/Tomato needed?

hey...someone answer that question....that would be awesome if that router also had a usb to ip built in. I hade a Motorola Wireless G router before I moved on the the sad Actiontec Fios Router. The Motorola was ok, it would really suffer when i was downloading over wireless. It would barely go over 60 kps (or kbs...whatever it is). and since it was G, it sucked for gaming when it was over wireless.

The WL-500W should be better as it has more RAM, flash RAM, and a faster processor in addition to draft-n capability. It's also DD-WRT-compatible.

linksys used to be awesome. but then they started to cripple their products, each revision had reduced memory and flash mem..it was sad stuff.
i got my 54gs linksys years ago and it had 32mb ram 8mb flash. now i can use the mega version of the ddwrt because of all the extra space, not that i use all the features, but its nice to have such nice options after all this time. just sad to see potential stripped away from their product line.

Just bought a WRT54GL today, going to read up on how to install dd-wrt and let everyone know how it goes. I bought it to replace my old Netgear wgr614v5 which never gave me a problem, but I needed something with more range.

Been using WRT54GL w/ DD-WRT for a while. No complain here. Works well w/ PS3 and Brother wireless laser printer. Works fine w/ Wii and DS as well.

glad to hear it works well with the PS3 since that's what I'm using the wifi for.

Well looks like the signal wasn't any stronger than my Netgear WGR614v5, still only getting 55% to my PS3

Never heard of the WL-530G so, I think the WL-520gu is better although if you have the money, go with the WL-500g Premium instead.

How many Wireless Routers you personally used that leads you to this conclusion?

I used more than 30 from more than 10 Brands and I can not make a statement like this.

End-Users specific needs and the differences between the Models of the same Brand makes any statement like this Not withstanding with reality.

ive been using a wrt54g v1.0 since i bought it, have 3 lappys, 2 psp and at one point a couple consoles on it. never had any major probs until recently, i cant access some https sites. think that could be due to the old ass router firmware? i may look into that asus one to see if it works better. oh, and i play a ton of games over that sucker, not a problem at all.
