Linksys WRT54G pinging...

Is it common for the router and an attached host to ping eachother? I am seeing my router and my lone desktop attached via CAT5 to the switch ping eachother about every 5 seconds. I don't recall seeing this when I originally sniffed my data traffic when I first got this router. Does anyone else's do this?

Curious, I ran fport and discovered the mDNSresponder.exe service running. Looks like something related to iTunes. As soon as I killed the process, the pings stopped. Something to consider for people with iTunes installed. It appears to be part of the Bonjour package that allows for music sharing with iTunes. It pings the router every 5 seconds looking for other hosts to share with.

I imagine it's a keepalive so that the itunes link via DSL or dialup will remain active.

nweaver is probably right, JackMDS can get a jump on it and add it to his FAQ responses...

Good Work!
