Ok, I have this router hardwired to my Pc. My room mate has a wifi laptop and uses the guest pw to log on.

Since I hooked it all up I've had zero problems PC side, but my room mate has to log in at least once a day on his laptop.

The distance from the router to the laptop is maybe 10-30ft max (depends on where he has it at the time).

Any ideas? Not good on the networking side of things and I'm tired of having him tell me it's my nice router causing the problems. He even wants to to call up Exfinity/Comcast and get a router for himself *LOL*

Help please.

Log in as in re-enter the WiFi name/password? Then have his laptop forget the remembered WiFi. After doing so cycle his WiFi on/off. I'd also check the signal from where he is. Also I don't use guest often, but I can imagine that perhaps your Linksys could possibly be forcing guests to reconnect or reissue a new IP every so often since that's the intent for guest WiFi. It's temporary. Howevever your Linksys doesn't have control over whether to force them to re-enter WiFi name and password. That's all on the device.

Now do I have to have him use the guest PW? Or should I just have him use the main? Can he use the main? Will it matter?

I'm trying to figure this out, so let's go back to your 1st post, you said he uses the guest PW and apparently that works. Problem is he has to enter the WiFi PW regularly. I assume the guest WiFi password is one that you setup or is it one that Linksys created? If it's the one LInksys made, then I can only guess how it's working and recommend that you create your own guest WiFi password.

Why guest login? Just use your regular wifi login and just don't enable file sharing on your own machine
