Linksys WRT-54GL CONSTANT wireless disconnects

At first I believed it was just a typical wireless drop, but according to windows the strength is Excellent. My Xbox is also wireless connected with an above par connection strength and I notice it will drop at the EXACT same time my PC get's dropped, so it is definitely the router as oppose to the NIC's.

The wireless NIC on my PC is also a linksys, and the Xbox has the microsoft one, but again they drop simultaneously every time. My one wired PC has no issues.

I do only have the original firmware and I haven't tweaked much of the routers settings.

Should I switch to Static IP? Use a 3rd party firmware?

Edit: I have switched to Static IP, changed to channel 11, and determined that my phone operates on 5.8 ghz frequency. I will see how it goes from there but any further suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I would try switching to DDWRT firmware and see how it goes. I don't like Linksys firmware, too unreliable.

+1

With DD-WRT, you can set it to auto-reboot every day at whatever time you want. Plus you get loads more features and a more reliable firmware.

ok the DD WRT *SEEMS* to have solved the problem, though I haven't been on long enough to really confirm it. I'm crossing my fingers here. Thank you very much for your help!

EDIT
----------------
No go! My computer just now got d/c'ed.

Perhaps if I explain what happens, exactly, it will bring a remedy.

Essentially I'll be browsing the net and I use a whole bunch of tabs like anyone else. I'll notice the tab I'm on will hang in loading. So to test the connection I bring up another tab and hit home which is google for me. I notice google also will not load.

I look at the network status icon in the tray and it shows the little icon of the world which of course means Local and Internet (though in reality I'm actually not connected to my network anymore). After about 30 seconds of "Loading" and "Page not found" all the tabs will finish loading and google comes up finally. It is THEN that I see the network status icon turn to a red X meaning completely disconnected (even though it's obviously late) then right back to the world icon and I can continue browsing.

If that makes any sense I really hope someone can give me some sort of suggestion because this is just beyond frustrating.

As stated before it's not my internet considering wired connections do not experience this and I wouldn't get the red X, I would get local only. It's definitely getting dropped by my router.

Thank you in advance.

As much as I hate to self bump I really need some help here. I only know so much about networking but this issue is seriously annoying. Any help at all would truly, truly be appreciated.

I had a lot of random disconnects especially during file transfers with my WRT54G and a wireless card (also linksys).

Can't really do much except to try a new router or try to improve the amount of interference in the area.

Adjust antennas so that they are parallel, or try to move the router to a more visible area like on top of a counter/desk/cabinet instead of the floor or whereever you have it.

You can also try Tomato firmware and see if it is better. Also reset the router after flashing the firmware.

+1 on hard reset after firmware upgrade.

Check the wikis found on dd-wrt.com - especially important to clear the Nvram
