So speak to me as if I were a Kindergartener.

Linksys Wireless WRT54G Router. WEP enabled.

One desktop hooked up to the router via hardwire LAN cable. Works great.
One Desktop with a Linksys Wireless PCI card connected to the router. Posting from this one right now.

One Sony Vaio Notebook with an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG NIC. Windows XP Home SP1 (not sure what updates have been installed, because my brother is an idiot)
The desktop icon says "Wireless Network Connection (<CorrectSSID>), Speed xx.x Mbps, Signal Strength good"

Click on the icon, it brings up Wireless Network Connection Status.
Status: Connected
Duration: xx:xx
Speed: 54.0 Mbps
Signal Strength: couple of green bars

Activity:
Sent: 621 (this number increases by one every two seconds)
Received: 2143

Click on "Support" Tab
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Address Type: Unavailable
IP Address: Unavailable
Subnet Mask: Unavailable
Default Gateway: Unavailable

The "Repair" buton is greyed out.

Network Connections -> Network Bridge -> Properties
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) box is checked.
-> Properties box says
Obtain an IP Address automatically is checked.
Obtain DNS server address automatically is checked.

I have put a WEP key in the Vaio. I used the second one listed in the Router. There are a couple of settings I don't understand.

However, I also tried disabling WEP on the Router, and disabling WEP on the Vaio, and still got the same results, so I don't think WEP is the problem.

Please help

Bump. I have the same configuration here and am having the same problem. 🙂

I am working on finding a solution, if I do I will let you know. I am leaning towards the WRT54g as the laptop has no problems connecting to another router. But the odd thing is, the syslog from the router says that the laptop denied the connection. 😕 *sigh*

make sure the ssid and wep index keys are the same..
make sure the speed mode is mixed.. or try just b speed. i have a gs and many laptops/friends laptops/sony vaios and all sorts have connected.

install ALL windows updates!!

make sure router has dhcp enabled.

Thanks for the suggestions. I would have tried installing all the Windows updates, but I didn't have much time. I'll try that first.

EXACTLY what do you mean by "make sure the ssid and wep index keys are the same." Each 24 character hexadecimal code on the Wireless desktop/laptop is an exact match for keys 1 and 2 on the Router.

The speed mode is mixed (b and g).

Thanks for the help.
