after a random period of time (could be 5 minutes, could be 2 days) my linksys wireless usb adapter (wusb54gs v2.1) stop responding, effectively cutting off access to the internet. at first i thought it was a weak signal, but if i mouse over the network icon, the network info popup doesnt appear, and clicking on it wont bring up the properties window or do anything for that matter. unplugging and replugging the adapter usually fixes the problem tho.
i looked in the system log and there are hundreds of the same entry:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
The Probe service failed to start due to the following error:
The specified driver is invalid.
which according to the log occurs about 2x per second, until it completely screws the computer. at that point unplugging and replugging no longer works either (computer doesnt even recognize that it's been unplugged), and i have to reboot to get the net back. i'm using latest drivers if you can call them that (last updated may 05) on xp sp1. i've also tried swapping the adapter, and the other one does the same thing.
