Linksys wireless install problem

I am trying to set up an older computer, AMD K6-300 w/ Win98, so that it will work with our Linksys BEFW11SE all-in-one cable/dsl router, wirless access point, 4 port hub.

Both the WMP11 wirless PCI card and the WUSB11 wirless USB adapter have resulted in the same problem; it seems that the adapters are recognized everywhere but in WINIPCFG.

The setup software and hardware seem to install fine.
The Linksys configuration software is running and shows a strong signal.
The Adapter shows up in the system and network portions in Control Panel.
**The adapter is not listed in WINIPCFG**

Seems like only half the system is finding the adapter, and without WINIPCFG I can't get the adapter configured for the network or internet sharing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

do you have another network card plugged in? if so physically remove it and remove the drivers and attached protocols from the network window - just a guess.

No other network card, just a phone modem with AOL & some dial-up adapters listed in network settings. Unfortunately, I can't remove those, the user will still need them.

Thanks,

It is an all-in-one WAP & Router, and I could only find one setting for DHCP. It does not look like there are discreate settings for the WAP & router, unless I missed something.

Thanks,

I think it is fixed.

I re-installed Windows 98 and now the Wireless PCI card shows up in WINIPCFG.

Everything is configured and the computer is on the network.

The only problem is that internet access is very slow, almost unusable. Pages take between 5 and 15 minutes to load, if they load at all. The same pages take 10 to 15 seconds on the wired machines. I hope that tweaking the wireless settings will solve this problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
