I had set up a Linksys wireless router and a wireless game adapter over the summer for a guy to play his PS2 over the internet. At that time I couldn't get WEP working, so I set up the MAC address filter instead (I figure anyone who can hack a MAC filter can also hack a WEP key). But this past week I've had to help out again because the adapter wasn't working again.
What is odd, seems everytime I check what MAC address the router has connected to it, the MAC address of the adapter is different. While I was over today helping, the adapter had changed between 4 different MAC addresses. I got the firmware updated in both units, and I finally got WEP to work, but the MAC addresses just puzzles me. So I left the connection with WEP enabled and no MAC filter. Other note, the MAC address on the side of the adapter & in the web setup was never one of the addresses seen by the router - though one was close, ending in ":04" instead of ":03".
Is that how these game adapters are supposed to work? I'm just hoping everything is going to work from now on and I won't have to resetup anything again.
