Linksys Wireless G Router question

I recently upgraded my wireless router from a D-link 614+ to a Linksys Wireless G router. I am using an older laptop with an ambicom wireless card, that worked fine with the d-link router, but I cannot get wireless to work with the new router. It finds the SSID, but I cannot get an IP address, nor can I get a good signal from it even when im a foot away. I have updated the firmware to the latest version, tried a different wireless card, and double-checked my configuration. I also tried resetting defaults, but nothing seems to work. Am I missing anything here?
