LinkSys WEP Newb Question..

hey guys i have setup my linksys wifi router and as much as i AM familiar with networking, which do i use as the network key? the generated 4 keys or which one or do i use the passphrase,.. any tutorials on what each is and what they do?

Use one of the generated keys, I usualy just use the first one.

OK well i have been trying that and the key is 26 char and when i goto win xp home and setup the wireless connection as automatic and put the WEP key in and save it, when i go back its only like 6-12char (i forget).. but its not the whole WEP any one know why it does this?

Check if all the devices are set to use the same WEP, 64 bit (40 bit) or 128 bit. The WEP keys are different lengths. Also note that some (less desirable) routers only allow you to enter the WEP key in hex, no ASCII

its a linksys g router which generated the wep keys.. ive tried on multiple computers in infastructure mode with no luck.. i type in the 26 char key to setup an automatic connection, and when i go back its like 10 char...
