Linksys WAG54G V/S others

Dear All,
I am new to your forum , however I have the feeling that I will get the best advice from you.

I have a Linksys WAG54G connected as a router only, My laptop has a PCI card WPC54G.
I experience a downgrade in signal and frequent internets disconnections. in general I am not satisfied with this model performance. Linksys support suggests changing port number to enhance signal, does not work :-( .

I saw in your forum someone proposing Linksys WRT54G as a good router , other Netgear...

I am not an expert in those things, I need a router that have a good signal coverage and that can be enhanced with either new soft or new antena.

My question is : what is today the best router in signal coverage ?. I have a small appartment ;-) .

Many thanks for your answer and support 🙂

You probably have something causing interferance thus the poor signals, etc. What cordless phone are you using? That router is one of the top rated ones out there. Others like a Buffalo model but I am not familier with it.

Hello, thank you for your reply. I have two cordless phones: first one phone connected to my freebox (IP phone) Philips Omni (close to the Linksys) , the other one in the living room where signal goes very low: Siemens cordless phone. The distance from my laptop to the Linksys is 9 m and I have two walls separating the rooms. I was thinking to buy a WUSB54GP for my laptop to see if it gets better and if not to exchange the WAG56G with WRT54GS. does it make sens to you?

You don't need the speed booster, you should have no problems with 9 meters. Try unhooking the power to your phones to see if makes a difference.

Hello again, did not work by disconnecting the phone. I will try to add a reflector (kind of a pringles box behind the antenna). I am suspecting the way the linksys is positionned very close to the white wall. might cause problem of reflexions. I have the firmware 1.01.7.
