Linksys vs. Netgear vs. Netopia broadband routers?

Which is better for 4-5 PC's to connect to internet? Can the Linksys or Netgear Cable/DSL routers be configured or linked to something that would allow an external 56K modem to be used as backup? The Netopia costs a lot more but are its features worth it to a SOHO network? THX for advice.
 
I have a Linksys and am happy with it. As for 56K backup, one of your computers could run some proxy software (like AnalogX proxy). Then you just need to configure port forwarding in the router and set every computer to the proxy server.
