Linksys USB Wireless 'hub' adapter as well as PCI card?

I noticed Linksys has a hub/router-looking wireless adapter (WMP54GS), which would free up my lst PCi slot I intend to use for a firewire card.

Would this work as well as the regular PCI adapter? Given that I am not pushing 100M/sec from the FIOS router in my garage, I suspect the USB would suffice. Thoughts?

...any way to get my old Linksys router to receive the signal and use it as a substitute for an adapter? 🙂 I am a networking rookie, too, so not sure if there is a trick to getting thi to work...susect it only transmits and doesn't receive over-the-air.

it should work fine. usb 2.0 has a transfer rate of 480Mbit. since wireless has a maximum of 54Mbit and FIOS can give a max of around 50Mbit, it should be fine.

It works full duplex - otherwise you could not send any data to anyone onthe net or the Internet.

So does that mean that I could use my old Linksys router to receive the signal sent out by the huge FIOS router I have? I wouldn't need an adpater?

incorrect. full duplex refers to ethernet to when the cable can transmit and recieve at the same time. wireless can't do that. it is half duplex. it transmits and recieves but not at exactly the same time.

Sorry ForumMaster - I mispoke. Half duplex is correct. And, yes, the old router will work with the new router as loing as they are the same standard.

I would think even this one would suffice.

My boss used one of those with his laptop and it seemed to drop signal quite a bit...very intermittent when I tried it. Anyone have any luck with these bad boys?

Yes, I have, also with a laptop. But only when using Linksys wifi connection program, not the XP built-in one.
