My Linksys wireless router BEFW11S4 will not allow me to ping when it is hooked up to my cable modem. If I hook direct to one computer though I can ping just fine. Any ideas waht is causing this? I can't find a fix in the administrator. Thanks for the help.

"Problems with PING and TRACEROUTE.
Version 1.22 and higher firmware adds a "Block WAN request" feature to the Filters page. If this is enabled it will block all ICMP requests, which both PING and TRACEROUTE need, and you will not be able to get a response when you PING or TRACEROUTE the WAN side of the router. Just DISABLE this option to fix this."

found this on a webpage.. see if it'll work

Are you trying to ping IN? Generally the "disable WAN requests" thing is a good thing to have on, as it prevents people from snooping around.

The Linksys router has a little process that opens and closes the wan link, this makes ur ping really high or simply not show at all. I believe downgrading your firmware should do the trick, but if all else fails, may I suggest an smc barricade wireless router?
