Linksys router problems

I have a linksys BEFSR41 router and I have two computers hooked up to it. I have cable and boh computers are P4 and have lan cards. One has the onboard card that comes with the ASUS P4P800 and the other has a D-Link lan card. The problem is that every once in a while the router stops working...i mean the internet doesn't work, and downloads just stop. This happens atleast twice a day. Then I have to go reset the router manually. Is there a fix to this?

Sounds like a problem with the router. Maybe try updating your firmware.

Agree with Strych0...update or reload firmware and do a reset of the router.

I had this problem with the latest firmware, so i went back to the 1.45.6, Jun 24 2003 firmware, and it works fine.

I just started having this identical problem after I updated to the latest firmware (fw dated Jun 4, 2004). I'm gonna go back to the previous firmware like Tom did...

These firmware updates becomes like the ?Silly Hourly updates of the NVIDIA Video Drivers?.

Updates are for specific problems. If the Router works OK what the updates is for?

The latest firmware update was to patch up a security hole in the previous (almost a year old) version. Unfortunately, even though the security hole has been fixed, the code in the firmware regarding the WAN-side DHCP became broken. Once the WAN DHCP lease expires, the newest firmware won't auto-renew it; one must go into the router configuration and manually renew it.

Well, you can always go back to one of the previous firmware versions. ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/befsr41/ has previous versions of the firmware available. I went back to version 1.45.6 (befsr-fw-1456.zip), and the router seems to be working fine again, after having upgraded to 1.45.11 a couple days ago.

I would also restrict mac address access, u never know if someone is roaming your setup. Try changing the broacast channel, maybe someone in the area got a cordless phone that is interfering.
