Hey Guys i got an annoying problem, my router keeps disconnecting me from the internet every few hours. I contacted linksys but it was a complete waste of time. When it disconnect me from the net i would have to unplug the power from the router, then plug it back in for it to work. any suggestions ? thanks in advance.

Are you using a P2P file sharing program like Bittorrent or Kazaa? Many of those programs allow dozens or even hundreds of simultaneous connections, and have been known to cause loss of connectivity in home/consumer routers.

If this is the case, you may be able to resolve the issue by upgrading the router's firmware. Otherwise you'll have to turn off your P2P program, or limit the number of connections it is allowed to make (both for upload and download).

I too have a problem with getting disconnected from the internet due to the Linksys router. What model is yours?

I tried upgrading the firmware multiple times using multiple code files and keep getting an error when I try. :(

I had the problem with both my BEFW11S4 and WRT54G, and realized the problem ony happens in summer. I got some Ram heatsinks at Fry's for like 5 bucks and stuck them on the cpu, ram, and radio in there.

Hasn't frozen yet.

I have the same problem. Upgrading firmware didn't help. What model of cable modem do you have?

I use 1.50.14 firmware for Linksys BEFW11S4 version 4

It depends on what version is your router you can find it under the router.

I just brought this thread up searching for something similar.

I too have a BEFW11S4 at this house and my roommates and I get disconnected a lot.

I wanted to upgrade the firmware but it comes factory loaded with 1.50.14, apparently the newest, and this router is at least 1.5 years old. Way to support the product! :\

Upon looking into this further, it seems there is a 1.52.02 that is out (i seen several threads of people with BEFW11Sv4 with 1.50.14 and some with 1.52.02) EVEN THOUGH Linksys does not appear to host it on their website. I was able to find it from opendrivers.com, but there didn't seem to be much official mention of it at all. What is going on here and that also leads to the question on why are there so many threads of people with ONLY this router having these problems?

Ok so I searched through a ton of problems with this piece of crap since 2003. I found 1.52.02 and upgraded to it. Will have to tell the roommates to notice for a difference if any. The only other router we have is a Neatgear MR814v2 that seems to go hand-in-hand with the Linksys.

I heard some people with bad luck with 1.52.02. I tested myself and it seems ok but did not work with wireless card on my lappy so I went back to 1.50.14
