linksys router incompatible with xbox live?!

I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 ver. 2 with firmware version 1.45. I am planning to install xbox live through a linksys wireless ethernet bridge which i already have. Now it says the following on the xbox website


Don't use these routers with Xbox Live:

The following routers currently don't work with Xbox Live.

DLink Linksys Netgear SMC
DI-754 BEFSR11 MR314 7004VBR
DI-764 BEFW11S4 (v2) RP114 7004WFW


It is also strange that in the readme for the firmware version 1.45 it says this

1.45 Feb 28,03 1. Increased UDP timeout for XBOX support
2. Improved web based firmware upgrade using Netscape 7.0.
3. Solved PPPoE connection. if static IP is already set,
the routing table will not get updated.
4. Added waitfor() for PPTP first time connect timeout issue.
5. Added backup & restore configuration function.
6. Modified wireless DTIM interval default to 1.



am i screwed? or is microsoft just doing bs testing on their routers?

I am wondering if you have to forward some port from your router to your xbox.

anyone know if xbox live runs on a specific port?

Yes, Xbox Live uses TCP port 88 in order to login first.

NO offense meant to you Overclockurmouse but what you said right there proves you have absolutely no clue what your doing. again i dont mean to offend you but your statement stands out, it says i dont know what you mean,, what if forward a port ?
dont you understand what it means to forward a port ? and hack your firmware,, yeah,, uhm no,, there is only 1 router out there that i can think of right now that will have hacked firmware and thats the 54G linksys

i havent seen a router yet that dont work with xbox live.
forward the proper ports and it should work.

i have had some el cheapo routers and im using one right now a walmart netowrking everywhere NR041 4 port (all it is is the linksys 4 port router, its made by linksys and even has linksys web pages and firmware lol kind of lol) also a belkin piece of crap that works with xbox live.

its a marketing scheme. thats all.

i have heard of people having problems but all you do is forward the ports and it runs.
