i got my router like a week ago, both of my computers are recognized by the router so i assumed that the router was doing what it was supposed to do
then a link posted by NDC at the TechIMO.com forum said that my network was so insecure that i should buy a shotgun and crouch inthe corner waiting for intruders
Check Your Security Here

my router accepts a connection from a computer it does not know, my netBIOS is easily accessed, it figured out all aspects of my network, it even figured out my mac address.

how do i make my router start being secure? NDC has the same router as me and his puter was deemed safe without the help of software firewalls.

Fearful? I can just imagine someone blasting their router from a corner.
LOL! (Maybe a little counterproductive too.)

Really though, like mentioned by MrChicken, 'Block Wan Requests'. If you are in need of extra security, enable NAT instead of SPI (If you select SPI, NAT is disabled). SPI is nice for logs, but NAT is greater for your security. Use some SPI or network intrusion detection software on your PC instead. Enable packet filtering on the router. Only open those ports that you know you need.

NetBIOS responses are usually from your Windows PC, not the router.
