I have a Linksys router and I am trying to set up a ftp server.

I set up fowarding in the routers setup (Opened port 21 and added the computers IP with the ftp server) but I can't connect to it with a ftp client.
I can connect to it with IE but bulletproof and Cuteftp are a nogo.

Can anybody Help?

Getting an FTP server to work behind a firewall is a major pain. For it to work 100% of the time you need to:

1) Map port 21 from the firewall to the box with the server.
2) Enable PASV mode on connecting clients.
3) Bind the server to the public IP (there will be an options for this somewhere)
4) Map a block of aditional ports from the firewall for PASV transfers (above 1024... and 100 ports is good).
5) Tell the FTP server to only use those ports for PASV transfer mode.

AIR. Mapping ports 20 and 21 to the server will work somethimes... but not if both sides of the connection are behind a strict firewall. I could never get that way to work with a Linksys firewall on the server and a Linux firewall on the client.

Repost this in the Networking forum if this doesn't work.

Good Luck

I have a linksys router too, have the same problems...

FTP doesn't work well w/linksys at all, and I'm not sure if it's the same way with all the other routers (soho)...
