For a long time now, I have tinkered with my router and cuteftp, but I can never connect or have anyone connect to me. I am really frustrated and hope some of you "in the know" can help me out!

Thanks

FWIW, I have an SMC2404WBR in my closet for a similar reason. I appears to work just fine for most applications, but FTP consistently chokes on it, either uploading or downloading. It proceeds for 50-100k, and then just hangs and the connection times out. I have tried an older SMC7004AWBR, a Gigafast, and a D-Link DI-614+, and all of them work fine in the same environment. I spent quite some time with SMC on this issue, and they came up with nothing. I only spent $20 on a rebate deal on the router, so it's resting in the closet in the hope that a firmware update makes it useful again someday.

The following page was written specifically for a Linksys Routers.

With a little imagination it probably can be transposed to establish similar settings in any Router or ftp.

Jack, while that's useful information, the problem I have is that I can't connect using a standard FTP client through the SMC router. There is no port forwarding needed for the client, and all the other routers models I've tried, including an older SMC, work just fine for the same FTP client. Since NOBEL states he can't connect out, it seems he has a similar issue, though it's hard to know from here.

another Question about linksys routers...

why cant others ping me? I can ping out all day long, but those pinging me get know responce.

do they need to add something to the ping to reach me or do I need to forward a port to my main box? (which port)

I'm assuming it has to do with port forwarding. anyone know how to fix this? also how vulnerable does it make me to leave ports forwarded? (i think the only one I have is 1337 used for WASTE)

Actually, many routers have an option to discard WAN side pings, perhaps your Linksys has this option set?
