I have tried to get these two components to work together for almost 8 hours straight, nothing.....

Tech support of either company has said its not their problem, and cant help me either.

Its Linksys's fault, while installing hte drivers for the card, the setup program searches for the file pc100nd5.sys ....Windows ME cannot find this file anywhere, including the WinME cd rom. The problem is that this is a known issue by Linksys, but i hear theres workarounds for it...but no one is willing ot share this information. Please, if you know how to set this up, respond.

My roommate has a Sony Laptop. I tried to get that same card to work in it, and had no joy. But after some research, I found out what the problem was. The PCMCIA slot is a CardBus 32-bit interface. Now, it should be backwards compatible with that card (regular PCMCIA uses 16-bit bus). Well, for whatever reasons, I never got it to work properly. Your Dell laptop uses the exact same CardBus interface that the Sony does.

Solution:
I bought the Linksys PCMPC200 CardBus NIC. I installed the card, loaded the drivers and viola! Everything works great now. I picked it up at Amazon.com for around $50.

Hope this helps you and if you have any other ?'s, drop me an email....my address is in my profile......

Interesting, but most current laptops use that interface, and have not had that same problem.

In any case, I use the Linksys PCM100H1 - HomeLink Phoneline + 10/100 Network PC Card which also uses a 16-bit interface and have had no problems with in on my Sceptre 69002 which is the same thing as the Dell Inspiron 5000e.

Gotta love this thing. This one card handles both HomePNA and Ethernet with a single driver. So, if I'm near an Ethernet jack I plug it in and it automatically senses the speed (10 or 100) and hooks me up. If I'm near a HomePNA jack I just plug it in and Voila! I've got 1 Mbps HomePNA. Windows couldn't care less - it just thinks I'm running a slow version of Ethernet - no settings to toggle.

It's about $65 US.

A Friend of mine recently had a problem with a linksys PCMCIA card under ME... he returned the card and got a different make & model.
