Linksys NICs are suck

I had no idea that linksys nics were this slow.
I had a Realtek nic in my computer but it started dying on me (working intermittently), so when I came back to school I used my linksys nic instead. Visiting sites seemed awfully slow so I went to the modem speed test page and got downloads equivalent of a 14.4 modem.
The Realtek nic happened to be working at that time so I hooked that one up, cleared my cache and tried again, speeds were up around 150K

Why is there such a huge difference in performance between these cards?

I second that motion: they don't work great in linux box on the tulip driver either. Gave me all kinds of fits!

I used a Linksys NIC before I switched to a usb nic. The performance of the Linksys card was fine...gave me my full 750Kb/s on my dsl line. I'm guessing that you might have a bad card or maybe it wasn't installed properly. Did you try to find updated drivers?

I'm using the drivers it came with (will check for an update), and I guess I should mention that I'm using Win2k, maybe it just has lousy Win2k support, or maybe they have better drivers available now, I'll check on it when I get back.

Haven't been able to connect to their ftp server all day. I uninstalled the linksys drivers and restarted, pointed Win2k to it's own system directory when it asked for driver files, and download speeds are way bettre. weird.

I have my linksys NIC running on win2k fine... and I just used the win2k drivers on the linksys disk...

It also works fine while I am in RedHat linux... And I am only using the driver from linux...
