Hey there guys,

I am working on something simple. I have tried to install drivers
for the LINKSYS 10/100 LNE TX V.4 PCI ethernet card. Well,
when WIN 95 looks for the drivers on the installation disk it says
it does not find any info on the disk. I thought it might be the disk....
special note I bought this NEW. I had another new
LINKSYS so I thought I would try the floppy disk from that but the
same thing happened. I have tried using a dial up connection to
download the drivers and extract them to a directory and do it
that way but nothing happends. I need some help.... PLEASE Thanks in advance..

SPECS.

CPU: Cyrix
HD: 8.5 GB...brand unknown
RAM : 32 MB SDRAM
WIN 95
LINKSYS 10/100 etherfast PCI V.4

Alphaslade980, by no means do I mean this to sound insulting, but when you installed the card, booted up Win95, it detected the card, and asked for drivers, did you point the installation routine to the Win95 folder on the floppy? I just installed that same card in Win98, and as I remember it I had to point it to the floppy a couple of times - not what I would call an intuitive install. If I remember correctly, I also had to steer Win98 to a couple of system files that it didn't automatically find.

No offense taken....I have never had to route it like this....but the fact the floppy did
not even find any info on the disk looks strange. I extracted the newest drivers to
a floppy and I will try that ok. I am helping 3 people with their cards installing them
and this stuff is not new to me at all...since I build systems, but it is just frustrating...
I will try that.....also I am connected through resnes at college and the network
here detects the mac address and that is how you are given an IP. The thing is
there are several people with laptops and they have what looks like a miniture
USB port on the laptop. They use a 3COM connector. Would the network be able
to get any kind of MAC ADDRESS like this ?? If so how would I do it ?

Slade, I'm sorry I can't be more help, but your plea post got me to thinking that you might be facing an issue of drivers not matching the chipset on your card. Check out this page for info on drivers and specific chipsets. Also, go to this page, scroll and click to the LNE100X page for a more detailed explanation of varying chipsets and related drivers. Maybe that will get you going!
