Linksys hub problem?

Hi all,
I have a notebook and desktop networked via a Linksys 5 port hub. It's been working ok for a couple of years now and yesterday I started to have trouble accessing the net first on my notebook and then on my desktop.
I tried and reset all my connections settings etc. and finally discovered that if I connected either pc directly to the cable modem (no hub involved) that machine worked ok. So obviously the problem lies with the hub.
Do you experts think that the hub is finished or could it be some sort of software setting? Just thought I'd ask before I go out and buy a new one.
Tia for any info.

Who is your cable provider? Maybe you should trying calling the cable company to see if they are having any outages.

I had a similar problem with my setup. When I would configure my PC to directly connect to the cable modem, everything would work. But when I configured my router to connect to my cable modem, things didn't work. It turned out to be my cable company. They had problems with DHCP. I don't understand the problem completely because the PC would have to DHCP for a new ip address as well. But when the PC did it worked, unless the PC stores this away somehow. Everything currently works fine now and I didn't have to buy a new router. My cable provider is Charter.

do you have 2 IP's through your provider?

what provider is it? did they recently change anything?

sounds like one of you're IP's is gone...

Make sure you don't have a bad port! I had a Linksys and it had a bad port ... try the laptop on a different port and see what happens.
