Linksys firewall behaviour

the FooL

Senior member
Ok, so way back when I first bought my original router, I noticed that I had problems transferring files.
I assumed this was the due to being behind a NAT firewall, etc.

So now I bought a Linksys WRT54G (hoping to use the alchemy firmware, but alas, it's a v4).
Still, I decided to use it.

I set up forwarding ports 6881-6889 to my PC and nothing else.
Now I find that I'm getting incoming packets on connections that I assumed would be blocked.
My brother was able to send me a file (and vice versa) without any problems.

I used Ethereal to capture logs for the AIM file transfer and saw that even though the DST port was 6726, it was routed to my PC.

Can some network guru care to explain what's going on?
I had thought for file transfers to work, both PCs had to see each other directly.

Thanks in advance.
