I'm not sure if there exists a problem between Linksys NICs and the VIA chipset or what, but it seems like the only probable combination. Both my friend's and my computer use AMD processors and therefore the VIA chipset. We both also had the Linksys ethernet card that used the tulip driver. When ever either of us would send a small packet of info over the internet the computer would briefly freeze and then come back again.

FIX--

We replaced the Linksys card with an ISA 3com NIC in my friends card and a PCI 3com NIC in my computer and they both work fine now.

I'm not sure if anyone cares or has ever had the problem, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

I've had good luck with SMC cards, also cheap. I don't know what I was doing wrong, but I had the most godawful time just trying to load a friggin' driver in W2K for my Linksys--I don't even remember what I did to get it to load finally, I was so whipped at that time.

i had problems with my linksys card and my geforce. It would cause me to have errors, get kicked out of games, and make me not able to play some games. Then i put in my ati all in wonder card and everything is fine. But, just got a new processor and all the problems floated away. ALthough i haven't tested my linksys for a while since i take it out when not needed
