Linksys EtherFast WAP+Cable/DSL Router w/ 4-Port Switch - $99 CompUSA

My first post, so don't flame! Don't think this has been posted yet...

Just picked up a Linksys EtherFast Wireless Access Point + Cable/DSL Router w/ 4-Port Switch - $99.99 @ CompUSA B&M in San Bruno, CA...originally $149.99, but there were 2 rebates, $20 and $30, but they were both instant, so I got it for $108 out the door. I've been eyeing this thing for a while, but I haven't seen it go down much. Let me know what you all think.

Below is a link to the product.

I posted this yesterday here. There wasn't a big response to it. I'm not sure why; it's a great standard router/WAP. I suppose if you wanted to get really fancy with your deal engineering, you could use BestBuy's 110% (or was it 105%?) pricematch to save a bit more.

I decided to pick one of these up because my old dlink switch had half its ports gimped, I wanted to upgrade away from my current ad-hoc network, and I figured it would be best to off load the connection sharing from my cel500 server. Didnt have any price hastles, infact it was odd, the site says its like $30 sale and $20 price break or something, but at the store it actually had a normal price tag of $99. Maybe its a perminant price, wont know till next week I guess.

So far I really like it, I pay for 2 ip's, one for main and one for server computer, but I decided to put them both on the router (ie now both are the same ip) as a little challange to myself to see if I could get my server working through the router. Didnt have any trouble understanding the config menus and within an hour, I had mail, web, DNS (I run a domain name), ftp, identd all working through the router, saving myself $5 a month.

the setup and configuration seems really refined and you gte many options to be expected from a router that is on it's 2nd hardware revision and is kept up to date (last firmware was sept this year).

My only problem is one of my wireless nodes, a netgear ma101, can't even see the Accesspoint. ive reinstalled windows w/ SP3 and still nothing. It worked fine in ad-hoc mode (infact it was connected to the server before and was where other devices talked to for internet connection sharing) and it was talking with a linksys wireless PC card, but says im lieing when I tell it there is an access point now. 🙁

A friend of mine had that problem too. Of course his solution was to actually turn the wireless standard "on" at the AP. If only one of your wireless cards isn't finding the AP, then it's probably something else.

I suppose that if Amazon is selling them at $99, it must be a standard price. I bet they're making way for 802.11a.

Wow.. I just sold one of these that was still sealed in the box on Ebay the other day for $120+. Guess Ebayer's don't check the internet for deals.

the netgear decided to work after swapping its usb port around a couple times.. also the router got reseted when the power went out so that might have had something to do with it.
