Pricematch at Staples.com
to CompUSA price of $129.99.
tax : $6.50
If they have it at a local store they won't charge shipping.

Price on web is $149.99 - $20 instant savings - $30 rebate = $99.99 but the rebate has expired. The Staples' CSR I talked to did pricematch it to $129.99 surprisingly.

Take off $30 for coupon ($30 off $100)
The CSR told me the price was over $100 because of tax, if not tack on something small.

Total price $106.49

Staples will not pricematch this product. It is an online product only, ie the item number starts with a M. I atempted to pricematch to buy.com and had no luck.

Staples will pricematch this item. I did it already, but they will not pricematch it to $99.99 because that's the price after the expired rebate.

.. and the rebate you linked to is expired.
Check upper-left corner "From 11/01~12/31/2000"

Anyone know anything about the UGate 3000/3200 7-port cable/DSL rounter by MaxGate? The 3200 is $179.99 at Buy.com, use a $30 coupon and Maxgate has a $90 rebate for a total of $60 + s/h. Any thoughts on how good this piece of equipment performs?

Sh*t!!!

I was ready to jump on this for $60.00.
I checked the mfr site and it reads...

"save $90 - instant rebate"

The price you see at Buy.com is the price you pay less any coupons.

If there is a mail-in rebate offer for $90.00, please provide a link.

Thank!

Whats the big deal about dsl routers? I have dsl and just use an ethernet hub and can hook as many of my computers up with simutaneous internet access as I want, no need for a router. Seems like you guys just want to spend more money. Is there something I don't know?

What's the big deal with routers? Security. The Linksys BEFS series and the other routers (Netgear etc.) offer some level of firewall protection. You can allow specific ports to pass through, forward incoming traffic based on the port number, etc. A DSL modem and a hub doesn't provide this.

Nobody really uses the cable/DSL routers as true "routers" to route traffic through large networks, even though they do support the RIP routing protocol. They are mainly used as a firewall/gateway device. "Router" makes it sound cooler.

"What's the deal with routers..."

Many ISP's do not support multi-users without an extensive software workaround or a hardware router. So you are lucky that it works for you.

As for the Linksys router, I have this router and was generally pleased with it... That was until I tried running game servers. This router and its firmware are buggy and tend to cause problems when running a game server. If you plan on doing so, you might want to check out another router. Or you could always buy mine :)

Anyone have any trouble with Buy.com coupons? I only see a place to put in gift certificate numbers, not coupons.

Florida Boy,

I checked the pn.com site and the link to Maxgate.

I'll repeat...

"The price you see at Buy.com is the price you pay less any coupons."

The price at buy.com is an instant rebate which mean that it is already included in the price.

Just went to the local Bestbuy B&M store and they have the exact same router for $99.00. No rebate hassle.

Are you Absolutely sure Allen7? The switches and routers look alike. Their website lists a 5 port switch for 99.99, and I have seen the 1 port Router for 99.99, but never the 4 port version. If BB has the 4 port for this price its a good deal since you can walk out with it.

tony, thanks for the info. I thought that my firewall prog. would be enough security, never consider that a router would be additional. Damn, you learn something new every day.
