don't worry about it, all the SOHO switches are about the same. buy the cheapest one and you're all set. Linksys, netgear, and SMC all make good switches.

Garion and I are not used to switches that have uplink ports. MOST don't, with the SOHO stuff being the exception.

The whole 200 Mbs is just a marketing ploy, you get 100 mbs transmit and 100 mbs receive. Some marketing dufuss took this to mean "our switch is better!!!! it offers 200 mbs bandwidth!!!"

What you're thinking of is what is known as full duplex. Data travels both directions at a theoretical maximum of 100Mb.

EDIT: Damnit! I hate it when the phone rings while I'm in the middle of replying. Well, at least this time it was a customer instead of some numbnuts trying to sell me something.:)

Sorry RUSS don't understand. So you have to have 2 lan cards in each pc. Or is just a certain mode with 1 100mbit lan card installed in a pc

What you have is the switch is able to do Full Duplex meaning that it can simultaneously send and receive at 100 or 10mbits/sec. So combined you have 200mbits/sec. You don't need to ehternet cards. You have typically a send and recieve pari on ethernet. All that is happening is that it is utilizing it more effectively by sending and receiving simultaneously rather than wait for a send to finish before receiving (half duplex).

Hope this helps...
