I have a 4 port SMC router I have used for several years troublle free, as my full on 4 port LAN.

I have come by 2 new hardwar( one router 4 port switch with an upload port,
and a 12 port hub.

I need at least 6 ports or more if I get a visitor with a laptop.
I know I can connect my hub and get as many hubs as I need and sacrafice one port. This linkSys I got has 4 switches and one uplink port.

on the net I cannot find this router's uplink port explanation. Just that the router sais that it can be daisychained to more switches or hubs.

Can I use liknSys just as a switch?
If yes do I connect a reverse cable to one of my ports on SMC and the other to the router?

or an ordinary cable that is used to conect a computer to the router?

Do I use the uplink port on the link sys for an ordinary cable or a reverse one to that port?

thank you,

I now have, in another thread, solved my present problem with having 6 switch ports using SMC barricade and linksys together. The linksys I picked up at a church sale for 5 bucks :), this past weekend.

With your post, should I need more connections I could have as many as I would ever need ( albeit hub ports not switches) adding the hub to the 2 routers where one has had its DHCP turned off at the suggestion given me in the other thread, and it now provides just additional 2 more ports which is all I now need, with your ace in the hole for the future
