Linksys BEFSR41 v.2 Router & Internet Apps

I just installed a BEFSR41 DSL/Cable router onto my "network". My network consists of my PC (Running WinXP Pro) and my Xbox.

I have DHCP enabled on my router.

On a normal day I use the following internet applications:

ICQ 2000b Beta v5.18 Build #3659
ICUII v5.5.2
mIRC 6.0/6.1
MSN Messenger 4.6.0073

Can anyone help me in setting up my router (or programs) so that I have the least amount of problems in using these programs (i.e. file transfers, connections, etc.)? Basically, I need help configuring ports, or whatever, in order to be able to use these applications.

I also play (and host, not dedicated) Medal of Honour, along with a few other games including DAoC, Q3, UT, HL, CS, RtCW, etc.

Will my router interfere with any of these in terms of connecting to a game? Or will it only affect it if I try and host a game?

What are the recommended settings for my router if I want to host games?

I also need advice on how to set up an FTP server from behind my router.

If anyone could help, that'd be great.

Thanks,

I'm not sure about specific settings because most home routers are limited with their configurations. Most of the time when a computer on the inside of your network needs a port, it opens the port. You can then use the port freely as long as the application is running and the router doesn't shut it down. Certain requests may not be able to get through the router, but it would be difficult for anyone to tell you which ones will give you probs and which wouldn't. I would just install it and write back if you have any problems. We'll all do what we can to help...
