ugh

As per message title, anyone use/own one of those? I'm thinking of getting one myself and would like to know how good/bad is it.

Edit: Product page is here

Comments greatly appreciated.

TIA!

I use that at home. Its uplinked to a switch to give me more ports. Its a great router, i've had it for years and havent had any problems with it.

For businesses (high HIGHHIGH) constant traffic: We also use it at my work and about once a week it locks up, just have to push the reset button..

I've NEVER had to reset it at home.

Thanks for the info. BTW, is the model you have with or without the built-in firewall?

I have the 2 port one that you uplink to a switch, but it's a damn nice router... I host my paulsonator.com site on it that gets about 50 gigs of outgoing traffic a month and it has no problems what so ever... it does lock up maybe once a month for me but oh well... it's no real big problem..

I bought a D-Link router instead {g} I went to all the local shops here and they were all out of Linksys stuff. The unit I got has the same functionality as the Linksys router. Not too bad 😉

BTW, one thing I don't understand is why I can simply plug a crossover-ed cable to the switch and works like a straight thru connection?

I've got the BEFSX41, which is essentially the same router with a couple of extra features. It's great, reliable, fast and incredibly easy to set up on WinXP. Even when using a router with a built-in firewall I still use Zone Alarm on each machine, just to be sure.

since this looks like the befsr41 source that doesn't blow-

Anybody having internet issues w/ this thing? I have had issues with this thing ever since I put it in. specifically: some web sites work just fine. ex: linksys.com, anandtech; others work sporadically: yahoo, google; others won't load at all: asus, newegg. everything works great when I run right off the dsl modem. I've jacked around with every setting on the thing with no improvements.
(norton update, kazaa lite, red alert 2 works just fine.)

I think that this thing either just blows, is defective (and past my 14 days return window), or hates me.
thoughts?

mine locks up a few times a week...only when im playing couter-strike...
only have 2 computers on it, more makes it worse.

rather annoying...

IMHO, Linksys makes excellent routers for comsumer, SOHO and even small business use.

I use the 4-port model (BEFSR41) at home. I have 3 systems on my "network" and an extra port for thes systems that I bring in for repair, upgrades, etc. I've also networked a few home-based businesses and a couple of small companies with Linksys' 4 and 8-port routers (cable connections and wireless). Set-up with them has always been easy.

It will be interesting to see how well they maintain their track record now that Cisco bought them up.

A friend of mine has one of these... it died all of the sudden yesterday. Could not ping 192.168.1.1 no matter what I tried. It was only 1 year old.
Got a new one and everything is working again.

I just switched from a Netgear to this Linky. It's working great with 3 computers hooked up to it. And to think I had it sitting in the closet for 6 months. 😀

Doesn't it get like really hot in the closet? I thought heat would do weird things to routers/switches?
