Hrmm, I'm not sure where the problem lies. I have a laptop with an Intel 802.11b card that works perfectly with my linksys WRT54Gv2 router with WPA-PSK on.
I have gotten a WUSB54G version 4 linksys USB adapter but it refuses to pick up my wireless signal on my pc or when connected to my laptop (distance does not seem to matter).

What drivers are you guys using? I am using the ones that came with the adapter and there appears to be no new ones at Linksys' website.

Hi Antoneo,

I have a bunch of Linksys WUSB54Gs as well. Mine do work well, and the trick is NOT to use the front-end software that comes with the adapter (and Linksys tech support told me as much).

The only thing I used off the CD was just the device driver that Windows automatically detected when I plugged it into the USB port. I'm using Windows' own wireless configuration utility for it.

For your situation, I would disconnect the USB adapter, uninstall the Linksys front end, reboot, then hot-plug the adapter and let Windows detect it, then use Windows to configure it rather than install the Linksys configuring software.

good luck.

Hey wisdomtooth! I think I saw you in my P3 upgrade thread. :)

Do you have WUSB54G version 4 or the previous versions (1 and 2)? From what I have read and what the release notes on the latest drivers confirm, only versions 1 and 2 support WPA-PSK encryption options. Were you successful in implementing WPA or WEP only?

I too am using the Windows' Wireless Zero Config and not the Linksys front-end. I did try installing it after having no success with WZC.

In the past few hours I have gotten the WUSB54Gv4 to work with my laptop, through use of updated drivers at Linksys' FTP site (version 1.2.0.0 compared to 1.0.0.0). Looking through the *.inf file, it looks as if it should support WPA and the RT2500 Raltech chipset was stated to support it as well. Only WEP 128bit works at this point. I'll tinker with it some more and see if it responds.

Meh, no WPA but WEP 128 works fine. I was considering returning this product this morning but now I've decided to stick with it. I really wish Linksys had their link to updated drivers correct. I downloaded the v1/v2 drivers the first time, then downloaded the correct one which was the same as the CD version, and then found the updated one on linksysinfo.com (or was it org?). I sent off an email to support@linksys.com asking about WPA support in future driver releases and will see what they say.

the RT2500 is a piece of crap....the drivers are no good, many people (including me) get signal drops after 10-20 minutes, then it automatically reconnects a second later....just enough to mess with my multiplayer games, and other apps...
