Linksys 610n Wireless Speeds

I recently got a new Linksys 610n v2 refurb. Immediately flashed to DD-WRT.

When plugged straight into the router, I'm getting between 14-16mbps down, and 2mbps up. When about 2 feet away, using wireless, I'm always getting around 4-6mbps down, and 1.5mbps up.

I'm on a MacBook which I believe has a wireless N card in it. Running speedtest.net on my iPhone has similar results - sometimes slightly faster, sometimes slightly slower.

What should I be looking at to improve this? I'm currently on channel 6, and I live in an apartment building. At any given time I can see ~25 AP's.

EDIT: I downloaded an application called iStumbler which locates other wireless networks and shows signal, channel, and a bunch of other info. ALL wireless networks other than my own are on channel 1. I tried switching to channel 11 for the hell of it, and my download dropped to 1-2mbps. Wired connection still over 10mbps.

EDIT 2: I realized I hadn't restarted my router after switching from channel 6 to 11. The setting did "take", but I decided to try restarting anyway. After restarting I was getting 13mbps+ DL, so I guess that fixed it. Odd.
