my linksys router currently has firmware rev 1.30 (june 2000). I downloaded the firmware 1.39 and tried to use tftp/tftp2.exe to upgrade the firmware.. ive tried setting my pc ip address as static 192.168.1.50 (mentioned at practicallynetworked.com as a fix) in the linksys router help section. but it still doesnt work.

keep on getting "Unauthorized password, please re-try" message. when i goto my router setup @ 192.168.1.1 and enter my password, it works flawlessly. i also tried the password order mentioned (1st attempt: blank, 2nd attempt: admin, and 3rd attempt: my set password) any help would be appreciated. does it have anything to do with running windows 2000? thanks

Have you tried the java firmware upgrade utility from the web-based interface (Under Help>Upgrade Firmware)?

ladi: thanks for the suggestion. i didnt know that it had that feature in the web setup. (it's been awhile since i used my router. got it last year 1/2 when i had dsl but moved and it's been sitting on my desk unused for like 6months)

i tried that but when i click browse for the code.bin file, it just hangs there. also tried just typing in the location of the file. it sorta works.. i dont get that unauthorized password message anymore, but it just hangs at 0% completion.

i havent tried this (last resort), but i guess ill just reset to default settings and see if that will let me upgrade the firmware... hopefully itll go without any hitches.. :)

I had the same sort of thing happen to me a while back, tftp would hang, and the firmware seemed currupted. . .

Press the button on the front of the unit for 5 seconds or so, to completely reset (to original firmware, I think)
Than, try to upgrade it. This worked for me.

Good luck.

guaraguao: thanks for the assist. yeah, did the reset to default settings, and that cleared everything up for me to flash the firmware...
