I have the Linksys 4-Port Router (BEFSR41). My roommate and I are sharing our cable modem connection. I want to put my neighbors on our network, so we can share files and play multiplayer games, but I don't want them to have access to our internet connection. Is there anyway that I can allow them on the network without giving them internet privledges?

Thanks for the help

is there anything in your router setup that allows you to block their internet access?

chiznad3,

If you have NetBEUI on your systems in addition to TCP/IP and install ONLY NetNEUI on theirs, that will allow them to share files but not access the internet. The other alternative is to use the "filters" section of router setup to block their IP address from the web.

I was thinking that maybe setting up Static Routing table would work... If I could get seperate subnets, it should work, but I don't know if I can do that with this router?

You can't setup seperate subnets, unless you disable the DHCP feature AND add another router or gateway to the mix.. It's not necessary anyway. IP filtering is built in. Why do you want to try and make it more complicated then it needs to be?
