I just bought a new Linksys 4-Port Cable/DSL Router, but don't know how to use it for 2 computers. I tried the way like hub, but just didn't work. How should I connect the hardware ? From Cable modem to Router and Router to PC. I have 5 jack there. They are Uplink,1,2,3,4 and WAN. Thank you for your help.

the manual is pretty good about showing you how to set up the router.

it's easy to set up the computers with dhcp. you'd need to go into the network settings for your nic and have it automatically get ip.

and make sure that your computer workgroup names are the same.

Connect the Cable modem to Router's WAN jack. Did not use the cable that can with the cable modem it is a cross-over cable. You need a straight-through cable. This info is not in user's guide. Guide has the wiring info on both types of cables. Connect PC's nic to one of the router's jacks marked 1,2,3,or 4 using a straight-through cable. User the manual to configure the route. You will need the call cable company to give them the router's WAN Mac address or change the address to the one used the by the nic setup by the cable company. Note the cable/DSL router needs firmware rev 1.33 or higher the change it's WAN MAC address.
