The sale price is 9.99, with a $5.00 rebate dropping it to 4.99. Up to 5 rebates per address. Sale ends saturday 4/29 (I think).

nice network cards with support for lots of os's

Actually, I spent a couple of hours not getting this card to work with SuSE Linux 7.0. I tried the latest "tulip" chipset stuff from the Linux Network Driver site without success. I had better luck with the Netgear FA311 card (also with a "tulip" chipset) BB had for $5 after MIR last week. Linksys explicitly says it doesn't offer support for Open Source software. Anyone know how these cards work with SuSE 7.1 or Mandrake 8.0?

Actually, my experience with Linksys has been pretty dismal. I have a switch that is very picky about Cat 5 cables and one of these network cards would cause an Asus P3W mobo not to even POST about one time in 3. I thought the mobo was funky, so tried to return it. The tech pulled the Linksys card and it booted every time. Then he put in a Netgear card and it POSTed every time (I think we did it 45 times). He put the Linksys card back in and the same symptoms reappeared. He said Linksys has a reputation to using low quality parts and his shop won't touch their stuff. I don't know why the Anandtech folks like the card.

Fry's is hawking an Sohoware 10/100 NIC for $5, no rebate, through Tuesday. I've had good luck with Sohoware cards and Linux.

I like my linksys NIC because I am having no problem with it. Installation was a breeze in WinMe, 98SE and Win2K.

just got back from bestbuy, they had 2 "open box" linksys nics for $4.55 so I got those and they said I could use the mail-in rebate, so essentially it was free 🙂
