At one office here they have verizon adsl, 640/90, and a linksys 1 port router hooked to a 3com hub. In the past it was dropping the connection all the time, I would drive out here and the router would have red error lights, reboot it and it was ok. I tried flashing the firmware to no avail, finally I returned it for another one.
This one has been fine for weeks, but today they called me and said the internet connection was down again, when I came in the first thing I did was check it and no red lights. So I went to a pc, the router pinged fine, I then connected to the web config of it and it was fine, just showing as the pppoe connection was disconnected in the status tab, after hitting connect all is well. When I check the first page again it is showing as having "keep alive" connected so I would think it should try to reconnect on its own so I won't have to keep driving out and checking it.
Does anyone with this router know if I'm missing a setting other than keep alive to make it redial if verizon drops the connection for some reason?
thanks,
Daniel

My Verizon DSL shut off on a regular basis. It would lock the router (linksys) and force a reboot of the router. I think the problem was on their end though. It hasn't happened in about a month. It was happening at least 4-5 times a week.

My own opinion is that the server I was going through was crashing. I don't know if that helps and Verizon wouldn't confirm if this was true.

I have the same setup except im going through an Intel 8 Port 10/100 Switch and have never had that problem before. I leave my connection on 24/7 with no problems at all.

Seemed like it was ok again but I didn't have connect on demand setup so once someone cycled the power on the router it just sat stagnant. I didn't think it could have been a problem before with verizon actually locking up the connection but that is a possiblity somehow.
I started thinking of having it shut off the connection each night and then reconnect it in tbe AM to avoid leaving it on for longer periods of time hoping that might help the problem but I guess if verizon is having something to do with it then that wouldn't help either.
any other ideas?
thanks,
Daniel
