linking to pic=stealing bandwidth?

OS

Lifer
I posted a link to a pic here like yesterday and then today I get an email from some guy bitching that I'm stealing his bandwidth? I found the picture on another website's PUBLIC forum and was too lazy to upload the picture to my own host. I dunno, when you host a pic on HTTP, don't you more or less lose the right to bitch about people stealing your bandwidth?

No, not really. But some other folks on eBay with the same sort of thinking have met with some unusual results 😀

well if it's a paid-for hosting service, and there's like a 3gb limit, perhaps it's not intended for the entire WWW public, perhaps just those the owner decides to notify?

Well right, but I found the link on another public forum also. So what's the difference?

that's funny, usually people bitch when someone steals a pic, puts it on his own server, and doesn't acknowledge the source.

If it's on another public forum, I don't see why he's got his panties in a bind.

/me searches for OuterSquare's other thread ISO the pic in question

Don't bother, it was just some stupid pic of a chick/mockery of a mac

Since I host some pics for a friend of mine that has a page on asianavenue.com, i know that there will me massive linking to images from my server...

I dont even bother telling the people that are sucking my server dry. I just change the filenames on the server, change the old images with interesting pics from various pr0n/gross sites, and change the code on my friend's page.

Hilarous. But usually, they go back and link back to the new image. *sigh*
