Linking to a particular post in a thread

I'm curious, as I have seen this done before by someone: how does one go about creating a link that will automatically scroll down to a specific post in a thread? I was wanting to send a link to a friend, with emphasis on a single post. The time I am referring to when I saw someone else do it, I remember they added "#8" or something to the end of the link, but that doesn't seem to work for me now.

If anybody knows it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It should work if you put the start parameter in for long threads.
Then the # number would be however many posts after the start parameter. In this case, it would be post #110.

Engine almost got it. You need to reference the actual post number. It doesn't reset to 1 after reaching 100

I also have my setup to show 100 posts per page, but would that method work even if someone had the default of 20, or some other number besides 100? Just curious

Since the default is 20, you could just set the start to something like 5 before the actual post, just to be safe.

What I do is go to the message above the one that I want to link to and press the next link in the lower right corner of the message. This automatically goes to the next message (the one you want to link to). Then you can just copy the address from the address bar.
