Linking a Linksys Router with a Dlink Router HELP

I Have a linksys 4 port router and a dlink 713P. Is there anyway I can link these two routers to expand my network?
The linksys has an uplink port, which when I plug into the Dlink's WAN port, the Dlink WAN light doens't even turn on.
Do I need a crossover cable? Has anyone tried this setup before? Do I need to keep DHCP on? What IP address should I use? Anyhelp would be appreciated.

WAN port is an Uplink type.

However, I have the feeling that your are trying an inappropriate setting. I.E connecting the WAN port to a Regular port on a Router that gets its connection from a WAN port.

If you want to expand the network you can use the second Router as a Switch, you don?t need the Routing, and DHCP settings.

I have two computers hooked on the linksys router thru the normal ports. Then from the uplink(linksys) i have it connected to the Dlink 713p's WAN port. After I get a connection. How do I make the Dlink just another switch, while still using the wireless features?
Turn of DHCP? Should I use the same IP as the linksys router?

I have a similar question in that I presently have a Net Gear Router RP114 which I would like to continue to access the WAN. I also have a D-Link Router DI-713P which I would like to tie the LAN side to the LAN side of the D-Link to establish a printer port and wireless conections. Can I just use a Crossover cable between a LAN port on each router? I think this will work but I am not sure. When I use my browser to address the routers how it will will work since both routers have same IP 192.168.0.1.

You probably are better off replacing the Linksys with the D-Link. This way the Wireless part will be connected directly to the Router. Disable DHCP on the Linksys, and connect the Uplink of the Linksys to one of the regular ports on the D-Link.

What you get is a D-link Wireless, and 5 free RJ-ports (2 on the D-Link, three on the Linksys). Linksys WAN port stays empty.

Router?s address can be change in most Routers, change one of them before you connect the other.

I should be able to configure my Net Gear & D-Link routers in a similar way.

I plan to reassign D-Link router IP to 192.168.55.1 and disable DHCP. Net Gear RP114 will be accessing WAN/internet and D-Link DI-713P will be essentially a switch, wireless access point and print server. I prefer to use Net Gear to access internet since it has "keyword blocking" feature to deter my kid's friends from accessing certain sites inappropriate for kids. Will connect D-Link WAN port using a straight patch cable into LAN port on the Net Gear. Has anyone tried this and do they know if it will work?

I got it to work, thanks all for your help. All I had to do was to connect the linksys thru a normal port to the dlink's wan port. The two routers already had different IP's. So I didn't have to change anything. Also I disabled my DHCP on the dlink(don't know if this is necessary or not).
