Link with affiliate ID in signatures?

Recently, spread firefox has began a campaign of spreading firefox to the net.

And one of the "incentives" they put is for people to specify their own affiliate id in the link, so they get points based on how many people follow the link and get firefox.

Now i'm not sure what the point of the .. points, are.
But i'd assume that it has nothing to do with multilevel marketing and the likes.

So, my question would be:
Is it fine to put the affiliate ID in links to spread firefox?
Or is it not allowed?

This is for signatures, or even user profiles.

Thanks.

edit: since i don't feel like bumping the thread...
okay, i would assume that it's not okay to do.
not a big problem now, since i don't think my points can catch up with those folks at techtv ... T-T

maybe you should research it and find out what the points are for.

I decided to research it and this is what it says:

Our first target: one million downloads of the Firefox Preview Release in the next ten days. Register, sign in, and spread the word by adding a Firefox promo line to your email signature and one of our buttons to your web site (or your personal new Spread Firefox blog). Each time someone clicks on your link, you'll get a point, so you'll be able to see how much impact you're making. We highlight and publicize the ten most successful promoters in the "roll call" in the green bar on the right. In the future, prizes and pronounced placement on the wildly popular Mozilla website will offer additional motivation to bump yourself into the top ten. We also intend to beef up our referral tracking and award points for many other things besides referrals, such as donations and active participation in one of our marketing teams.

I've had numerous issues using Firefox on the AT forums; this might not be the best place to promote it. Previously, the END key was crashing the browser, and now the quote feature is giving me crashes. IE makes the main AT site all messed up due to someone's inability to work with cascading style sheets.

I think I mentioned before that the end key was an issue with your system. 😉

Mozilla's working just fine.

as far as I am able to determine as long as its not offensive/racist(and of that ilk/reference) or leading to pornography ..most links in sigs/profile are okay..

..subject to edit by an AT mod tho 😛

With the 1.0 preview release of Firefox, the END key issue is gone. I'm having the quote issue now though. My system is pretty typical, and I would be very surprised if I'm the only person experiencing these types of issues.

Seriously, the main page of AT needs to be dealt with. It doesn't allow the user to change the font size, and then when they override the accessability options in IE (shouldn't have to do this), everything gets messed up. The cascading style sheets are the problem. I honestly don't expect these types of issues at one of the world's leading tech sites, and would find them extremely embarassing if it were my site.

hmmm... that sounds easy enough as a requirement ,)

and yeah, i read about the point of the referral points:

popularity contest, i guess, huh?

I don't know about the rest of the forums, but, if they give any rewards for clicking on the link, it's against the rules in Hot Deals to have it in your signature .

I've never had any issues like you describe, and considering Firefox is quite a popular browser around here, I think we'd be seeing lots of people complaining if such trivial things cause the browser to crash.

Sounds like a problem with your setup to me.

I also don't have a problem with the main site using IE, aside from the fact that it's virtually unusable due to the many extremely annoying ads.

Are you able to adjust the font size? What screen resolution are you running? I'm at 1280x1024 and the fonts are way too small on the main page.

Damn, you're right, missed that part.
Oh well, good thing both the browsers I use can, good thing for me at least 🙂

Sounds strange that the fonts are too small though, they're pretty big to me, and I'm on 1280x960 on a 19" monitor.
