Link to ATI 9800pro to XT mod?

nevermind found it...is it possible to do this to a 128mb version?

Yes, but the only BIOS that I know of in wide circulation modded for 128mb cards is from Club3d. I used it on a Sapphire r360/hynix and it's still chugging along.

What is the point in flashing the bios when you can use ATI Tool (or equivalent) to overclock it to XT speeds?

XT bios increases voltage and with it the overclock potential, and if you have a 9800 pro on the XT PCB with the LM40 chip you can view the core temperature.

There are some core optimizations that are left untapped when a 9800XT GPU is running on a video card with a 9800 Pro BIOS. And then there's the overclocking thing that was already mentioned.
