Link Station NAS and Motorola sbg900

I have a question regarding file transfer speeds between my wireless computer and Buffalo LinkStation. The reason I'm asking is becasue it seems really slow. I have a Sony Vaio connected wirelessly to my Motorola sbg900 at 54Mbps. My LinkStation is connected directly to the Motorola sbg900 which is cable modem/router. My files are being transferred from my Vaio to the NAS only at 1.5 MB speeds. Is that normal ? If not what am I doing wrong and how can I speed it up ? Thank you for all the feedback.
