all trinitron/diamondtron/similar monitors have those
they're supposed to be there, drawing a blank on their real name right now....stupid calc test fried my brain
they take awhile to get used to when you first get the monitor, but once you use it for quite awhile you hardly notice them
aperature grill monitors (those with the wires) tend to be of better quality than shadow mask monitors (those without)
somebody correct me if i've screwed any of this up

thanks... that cleared my doubt.
the monitor i have at home is a viewsonic....... and it doesn't really have those two lines... i guess they are not as good as these sony trinitron ones.

The only part you screwed up is the aperture grill will tend to have better quality than shadow mask.

The CRT type only a single variable in the quality of a monitor. The electronics mated to the CRT plays just as important a role in quality as the CRT itself. A aperture grill CRT mated with poor electronics will look bad next to a shadow mask mated with good electronics and visa versa.

I still see you are touting your website where you work. Isn't that illegal here on Anandtech? Don't buy a Cornerstone as compared to some other brands, they are cheapy to midrange monitors. I would say Cornerstone is in the same quality or "non-quality" as KDS monitors. I saw some Cornerstone at a local store here, and the ones I saw had some geometry problems that couldn't be corrected with the limited controls given to the user. Good for someone who doesn't know what they are buying I guess and may be cheap, but don't expect much from Cornerstone. I still think Sony has the best quality control and monitors to date. And I suppose I am one of the few consumers out there, that would rather spend more money and have a great looking 19" over a poorer and cheaper quality 21". Just bought a 19" Sony G410R to replace my aging 15". This monitor is crisp and sharp at 1600x1200 at 85Hz. No bad pixels that I can see, and when I ran Displaymate software, to test the screen, it turned out great. A little moire, but no monitor in the world will have no moire unless it has a dot pitch of about .11 or less. No monitor to date has a VERTICAL dot pitch of this quality.

Mr. Coyote

My products are manufactured by the same companies that manufacture many of the ViewSonic, Hitachi, NEC/Mitsubishi and in the past even Sony products. My products are high-end professional grade products with 5-year warranties to back them up.

You must be mistaken, because we have never sold the Cornerstone brand through retail shops, so the products you seen must have been someone else?s.

Also not certain what you mean by vertical dot pitch. All aperture grill monitors use vertical stripes of phosphor, so they all have a 0.00 vertical dot pitch.

Not certain why you are so negative about me and my company, all I can say is I?m sorry.

Last year I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to convince myself that the aperature grill monitors were beter than the shadow masks. But when it came right down to it I could never not see those grey horizontal lines. I liken it to having a wonderful photograph with a crease in it. I would always see the crease. My opinion only, but its an inate fault in the image...it would always be there.
The number of sales people who said "oh don't worry about the lines, you'll get use to them". Made me think of the Emperors New Clothes story. I ended up thinking that I was the only person in the world that thought two lines on a screen was a big deal...guess In still do.

um, everyone i know that has a trinitron (and this is a lot of people) either never noticed the aperture grill lines or got used to it almost immediately. the aperture grill lines are a lot less noticeable than a crease is in a photograph.

I only notice the lines if I'm looking for them (I've had this monitor for 18 months now).
