Hi,

I just got a Voodoo3 2000 from a friend. When i installed the card on the PC, I get lines all over the screen in windows 98. I have tried different drivers, but with no luck? Could it be a hardware problem? Please help!

A few things to check:

1)Up the refresh rate to 75 or higher if your monitor can handle it. (I had a V3 3000 that displayed fine lines unless it ran at 85MHz or higher).

2) Make sure there are no power cords near the monitor cable.

3) No electrical devices, i.e. a fan, florescent light, etc. near the monitor.

Go here to the articles section. There is good info on installing Voodoo cards. Also, the Voodoo3 sets itself to "optimal" for the refresh rate. This turns out to be the max refresh rate for your monitor. Look for a program called "TweakAll", which allows you to easily set the refresh rate in each resolution. You can also do this in the "setting" for the video card. Just be sure to manually set the refresh rate for each resolution that you will use. 85mz is a good refresh rate to use. Also, be sure you are using the correct .inf file for your minitor. I had a Voodoo3 2000 and found it to be a very good card. I now have a Voodoo4 that I picked up for a good price when Office Depot was closing them out.

Thanks for your suggestions. I shall try it out today. Yesterday, I played around with the card settings again. When I switched the card to 32-bit colour, all the lines disappear. But when I switch it back to 16-bit colour, the lines come back again.... strange.
